Our Logo

The CSC was very fortunate to secure the expertise of the award-winning designers at Cambrian College in Sudbury to develop the CSC logo. The process began with our explaining to them the aims and objectives of Ontario’s Community College Adult Upgrading programs and a description of the students.
Many organizational logos begin with the acronym which then becomes the focus of the logo. The CSC wanted the logo to focus instead on whom we serve and how we serve them. We believe our logo has achieved this objective.
What is represented here?
The dominant image is the question mark. College upgrading programs not only strive to help adult students answer questions, but also to teach them to ask questions about themselves, their goals and the world around them.
The arrow identifies that the direction they are heading is up, and that college programming provides a pathway to the future.
The question mark with the yellow shafts also suggests a light bulb which has been turned on. Colleges strive to ensure that students are “turned on” to learning. College programs also provide the opportunity for students to understand themselves and their abilities more clearly.
The red arrow and circle also become the lips and eye of a rather Picasso-like woman. Designing delivery which takes into account the interests, needs and situations of the many women who participate in college programs is a major commitment at all colleges.
Finally, the yellow spikes can also be seen as the very modern hairstyle worn by many of the youth in Ontario. Increasingly many of these young people are turning to Ontario’s community colleges to help them achieve their goals.

We are very interested in hearing your feedback about our logo. We are especially interested in knowing if you have seen another image or message represented here. (We have been told that there is also a rather exotic bird or duck to be seen!!!) Like good poetry an effective logo may strike a chord with the audience which is entirely different from the message originally envisioned. l.wallace@xplornet.com
